Les Samelson OBITUARY
Les (“Sonny”) Samelson, 75, of Eagle, Colo., passed away peacefully on July 29, 2024, in Littleton, Colo., from complications of frontotemporal dementia. He was the son of Lester Elias Sr. and Jennie Cohn Samelson (Magdovitz) of Memphis, Tenn.
Les graduated from White Station High School in 1967. He worked for his parents’ real estate office from age 18, later becoming the firm’s principal. He studied Real Estate/Construction and Finance at University of Memphis and University of Tennessee, Knoxville, where he met his future wife, Carolyn Hyatt (Samelson). The couple had two children, Jenna (Browning) and Lee. The family relocated from Memphis to Colorado’s Vail Valley in 1991.
Les started in construction and development in 1972. He built or remodeled about 80 houses in Memphis and the Vail Valley, plus townhouses and a commercial building in downtown Eagle. He retired in 2020.
He was predeceased by his parents, stepfather Joe Magdovitz, and aunt Louise Cohn. He is survived by his wife and children; son-in-law, Dave Browning, of Denver, Colo.; and grandsons, Bryson and Xander.
