UPDATED:

School officials canceled classes Wednesday for students at Littleton’s Bear Canyon Elementary School after the power went out.

“Due to a power outage at the school and in the surrounding neighborhood, Bear Canyon Elementary will be closed today,” Douglas County School District officials said in an 8 a.m. statement. “We are working closely with Xcel Energy and have been informed that repairs will not be completed in time for school today.”

All activities at the school — including before and after-school clubs and sports — were also canceled Wednesday, DCSD officials said.

The cause of the power outage is under investigation, and school officials said they would provide updates to families and staff members about whether classes would be back in session Thursday once repairs were complete.

As of 10:25 a.m. Wednesday, Xcel’s power outage map showed 10 outages in the area affecting more than 900 customers — the school is just one of the buildings without power.

No repair crews were reported in the area by Xcel.

This is a developing story and may be updated.
